October 2010: Landmark Month

Two "events" this month will stand out in my memory for some time:

1. I went home for lunch on a work day for the first time EVER! I kept looking around for the camera crew because i felt like i was on a resurrected 80's sitcom. Midday waffles with my family was fanTAStic!

2. I realized i don't actually know how to drive a stick shift. Yes, i own one. Yes, i drive one every day. But i had no idea you could put the car in "neutral" and let go of the clutch- FANtasTIC!

It's a poor sort of memory that only works backwards.

Mermaid

There is no Poetry in a world governed by fairness.

Poetry, Art, Love…
All of these have their origins in the gaps between the way we imagine the world and our day-to-day experience of it.

Our imagining is inherently aloof and distant:
we are the Director.
(mermaid)
Our experience is inherently confused by conflict:
we are the Actor.
(manatee)

Everything that makes us unique is the result of the gaps between these ever-changing vantage points.
Any conscious attempt to alter either of these perspectives creates a perfect circle −
you can only end up where you started.

Dylan Smith

He's not my "friend", "roommate" or "boyfriend".

He's my partner, my future husband, my heart and the man who "has my back" during a zombie invasion.

too many NOs

you are a ghost.
in the revealing flashback at the end of the movie, the audience will see i was alone at the restaurant.
years from now they'll find the moldy leftovers of your meal in the back of my refrigerator, behind the milk and Little Debbie snack cakes, and all the pieces will fit together.
i walk in the between spaces, where the veil between the worlds is thin, and i brush against myself.
